Sad news this morning from Bundoran on the passing of surfer and artist Brendan McGloin.

Brendan was a renowned stone sculptor and carved the famous cross that over looks Bundoran Peak. “Brendan’s thinking was way cool. Yin and Yang energies on full display. His idea was to look through the fertile eye at Sunset on the Summer Solstice, make a wish, and celebrate life. He included carvings into the pillar stone of all the creatures that inhabit the reef below.”

“The Irish surfing community lost a good one today. Bundoran stone sculptor Brendan McGloin passed away at home this morning with his devoted wife Ali by his side.

Their fabulous kids aren’t the only loving legacy Brendan left behind. Visitors and locals who surf ‘The Peak’ are familiar with the iconic Pagan stonework, celestially aligned, that overlooks Ireland’s best surfing location.

The reef below is where Brendan and his brothers, Francis and Ciaran, and their good mates, learned to surf. A fun-loving, but very thoughtful man, Brendan’s body of work around Bundoran, throughout Ireland and overseas, is quite remarkable. From historical ornate high crosses, to numerous remembrance memorials, Brendan’s dedicated touch, his keen artistic eye, and all that hard graft with stone, will be appreciated for many years to come.

Sincere condolences to clan McGloin and all who know and love Brendan as friends. RIP Brendan McGloin surfer and Memorial Artist.❤”
